Question

How does the 55-document limit work — and should we combine documents into one?

While the EcoVadis methodology now permits some document consolidation, the best practice remains to upload separate documents. EcoVadis allows up to 55 documents per assessment, so keeping them distinct enhances clarity and reviewer accessibility. Retaining older valid documents alongside new versions to demonstrate year-on-year progress is encouraged.

The limit applies per assessment cycle, not cumulatively. Each time a new questionnaire is opened, you receive a fresh 55-document allowance for newly uploaded files. All documents submitted in previous assessments remain accessible in the Document Library and can be reattached to questions in the new cycle without consuming any of the quota — only fresh uploads count. The practical implication: where strong evidence already exists from the previous assessment, reattaching it is almost always the right approach; reserve new uploads for evidence that has changed, improved, or is being submitted for the first time.
